After finishing a book or a book series, I tend to need a break before starting a new book. I have a hard time getting used to new characters and storylines. This time I didn't take a break and decided to plunge in. It started with a bang, so I was immediately hooked from page one!I love Maxima and her feisty personality. I do appreciate that those traits weren't over done to the point that she was annoying.There isn't much background into each character of the story so there isn't a real investment into them. I wouldn't have been too sad to see any of them die, in other words. Perhaps as I read the next book, I might feel a little more connection, but not from this particular book, anyway.I gave it 4 stars because I liked how it hooked me in right away and I couldn't put it down, but there was not much sustenance in the characters.I'll definitely read the next book to find out what kind of trouble Maxima is in now after the mess she just got out of. I hope it delves deeper into the history of Maxima, Striker, and Ian. There was so much evasiveness in the personal stories of each character that they almost seemed two dimensional. But perhaps that is deliberate on the author's part to get you to read the next book?I still say it is worth the read. :)
